Free surface flow past topography: A beyond-all-orders approach
The problem of steady subcritical free surface flow past a submerged inclined step is considered. The asymptotic limit of small Froude number is treated, with particular emphasis on the effect that changing the angle of the step face has on the surface waves. As demonstrated by Chapman & Vanden-Broeck, (2006) Exponential asymptotics and gravity waves. J. Fluid Mech. 567, 299–326, the divergence...
متن کاملp-Toluenesulfonic acid a useful and selective reagent for the oxidation of benzoins to benziles under solvent-free condition
Oxidation of some benzoins to benziles is reported by using p-toluenesulfonic acid as aselective oxidation catalyst under solvent-free condition in high yield. The adjacent carbonylgroup is necessary for the oxidation of hydroxyl group in these compounds. The reaction iscarried out in a sand-bath at 100 °C with minimum by-products.
متن کاملChemistry of carotenoid oxidation and free radical reactions*2
When oxygenic photosynthesis evolved, one of the key functions of carotenoids was to protect aerobic photosynthetic organisms against destruction by photodynamic sensitization. Aerobic photosynthesis would not exist without the coevolution of carotenoids alongside the chlorophylls. As carotenoids are abundant in nature, in many fruits and vegetables, they are able to react with excited states o...
متن کاملA computational chemistry investigation of the intermolecular interaction between ozone and isothiocyanic acid (HNCS)
The binding energy and geometrical structure of all the possible dimeric systems of isothiocyanic acid (HNCS) with ozone have been investigated in the gas phase, theoretically. Six minima located on the singlet potential energy surface of the HNCS–ozone system at the MP2 level with binding energies (corrected with ZPE and BSSE) in the range 492.29–531.40 kcal/mol. All intermolecular interaction...
متن کاملChemistry of free radical and singlet oxidation of lipids.
The reaction of oxygen with unsaturated lipids produces a wide range of compounds that have attracted considerable interest and research. In foods, lipid oxidation products are responsible for the development of rancidity by the production of low molecular weight fission compounds that impart undesirable flavors. Potentially toxic and harmful cyclic and higher molecular weight materials are for...
